Russian figure skater Gleb Smolkin ice dancing with Diana Davis has yet to achieve outstanding athletic achievements to attract the attention of the US government, so the difficulties in obtaining a green card for an athlete are understandable, composer Alexander Goldstein told .
Smolkin and Davis were announced for the Russian Grand Prix stages in Moscow and Perm, but the athletes did not compete. Smolkin explained the skipping tournaments by the fact that they have been training in the United States all their lives and at the moment it is difficult to enter and leave the country. He clarified that in February he applied for a green card, but this problem has not yet been resolved.
Gleb explains everything correctly. He can come to Russia, they let him out of the United States very easily. But he has no American papers to return to the United States. Until he has them in his hands, the rear entrance is closed. I am not very familiar with the usual length of consideration for issuance of a green card. Everything is very unpredictable and it is almost impossible to achieve the desired results. I experienced this myself at the time. And Gleb cannot be allowed to leave Russia at the border without documents allowing him to enter a foreign country. I’m sure this rule applies to everyone. If you have entry documents, drive as much as you want.
Moreover, Gleb does not receive a green card as an exceptional person. In such cases, the documents may be reviewed earlier. And as an athlete, he has yet to achieve results that will catch the eye of the US government, Goldstein told .
Goldstein has lived in the United States for many years and has been publishing music for figure skating for over half a century. Among her clients are duos Lyudmila Pakhomova / Alexander Gorshkov, Natalya Bestemyanova / Andrey Bukin, Tatyana Navka / Roman Kostomarov and others.
